A Pitt-Johnstown Bachelor of Arts in sociology is excellent preparation for future graduate work in sociology in order to become a professor, researcher, or applied sociologist.

The undergraduate degree provides a strong liberal arts preparation for careers in business, social services, government service, journalism and public relations, public administration, education, counseling, and medicine.

Sociology is a branch of social sciences that uses systematic methods and critical analysis to develop and refine a body of knowledge about human social structure and activity. Sometimes, the pursuit of social welfare is the goal of applying such knowledge. The subject matter ranges from the micro level of face-to-face interaction to the macro level of societies at large.

This distinctive program reflects the strong historical role that sociology has played in the liberal arts as well as in encouraging sensitivity and promoting a deep interest in cultural diversity.
