The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies provided a $1,000 grant to Pitt-Johnstown in support of Field Equipment for the Environmental Studies program. Pitt-Johnstown’s Dr. Mitzy L. Schaney, Assistant Professor and Director of Environmental Studies, used the funding to purchase equipment and supplies in support of undergraduate research projects completed in throughout 2021. Examples of supported projects include a completed landscape design for Nathan’s Divide Watershed Education Center, a wildlife assessment of the 650 acers of campus forest, and testing of salt levels in regional watersheds as part of a national database managed by the Izaak Walton League of America Winter Salt Watch.
