Service to Community

President’s Staff Award for Excellence in Service to the Community acknowledges staff members whose work has gone beyond the boundaries of Pitt-Johnstown and made an extensive impression in the community.

Service to Community Nomination Form

Purpose

This award recognizes the service given by an individual to his/her community beyond the boundaries of the Pitt-Johnstown campus.  Volunteer participation in community endeavors is important for civic progress.  As a community partner, Pitt-Johnstown places a high value on community volunteerism by its staff.  While it is virtually impossible to assign a dollar value to the contributions that individuals make, it is that self-investment that is recognized by this award.

Number of Awards

Generally, no more than one award within this category will be made within a calendar year.  Exceptions may be made in extraordinary circumstances.  There may be years when no award is made within this category.  The award will be announced at the annual staff luncheon held  in December.  The winner will receive a $500 award.

Eligibility

All full-time, classified and union staff members of the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown are eligible.  The candidates for this award must have an employment record with Pitt-Johnstown for a minimum of five (5) years and be in good standing at the University, with no adverse employment actions within the last 12 months.  Previous recipients of the President’s Staff Award for Excellence in Service are not eligible.

Criteria

Candidates must demonstrate a pattern of voluntary service of significant importance to the Greater Johnstown community and be able to demonstrate collateral importance to Pitt-Johnstown.  Other accomplishments worthy of nomination might include: serving in a leadership capacity in a community organization, active involvement in a project or activity that directly contributed to an organization’s success or an ongoing pattern of voluntary service to the community and/or professional organizations.  Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate a consistent pattern of dedication to the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown.

Nominators

Any individual within the University community (including faculty, staff, students and alumni) may nominate a staff member for this award.  Members of the local community who are familiar with a staff member’s volunteer efforts may also submit a nomination.  Self-nominations are not permitted.

Repeat Nominations

Nominations submitted in 2022 will automatically be considered for this year’s award.  As all nominations are confidential, employees are not informed of their nomination status.
