Dr. Matson specializes in international and transnational history, including history of religions. Before joining the faculty at Pitt-Johnstown, he taught at the University of Oregon, Portland State University, and Judson Baptist College. A member of the American Academy of Religion and the International Association for Media and History, he has served as Senior Associate Editor of Film & History and Director of CERIS - the Consortium for Educational Resources in Islamic Studies.
He has been named Instructor of the Year by the Phi Eta Sigma and Pi Lambda Theta honor societies, and in 2002, received the President's Medal for Excellence in Teaching.
