Employment Opportunities

CS graduates are prepared for a wide variety of jobs including software engineers, programmers, support specialists, database specialists, and network administrators.  A partial list of firms hiring recent graduates includes Problem Solutions, Raytheon, ESRI, Northrop Grumman, MTS, Concurrent Technologies Corporation, Sotera Defense Solutions and Google. CS students are encouraged to contact the Pitt-Johnstown Realworld Career Services Office and the CS Department to discuss career opportunities.

Computer Science

Facilities

CS students have access to information technology resources including the total University computer systems network PittNet, public computer laboratories in Blackington Hall, and wireless services. The CS department maintains its own special purpose computing facilities, including servers and printers, in the CS Computing Laboratory in 214 Blackington Hall. 

Advising

Advising and registration of all majors are handled by departmental faculty.  Students meet with their advisor at least once each semester to assess current standing and discuss future plans.

Tutoring

Drop-in CS tutoring is avaialbe in the CS Laboratory in 214 Blackington 5 days a week and evenings.  Private tutors are available from the Academic Success Center.

Extracurricular Activities

The Student Chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) is an active group of students with common interests in computing. It sponsors and participates in various worthwhile professional, philanthropic, and social functions.
