Student Teaching in New Zealand

Pitt-Johnstown has developed the Student Teaching in New Zealand program to help students meet the challenges of teaching in today’s global society. Participants spend seven weeks during the spring term in New Zealand (when the country is experiencing summer), completing one half of the 14-week student teaching requirement, while Pitt-Johnstown is in the middle of winter.

Student teaching is the final phase in Pitt-Johnstown’s teacher certification program. Each student in our education division must complete a 14-week internship; The Pennsylvania Department of Education mandates that seven weeks of the experience must be completed in the United States. Completing the remaining seven weeks of student teaching abroad offers Pitt-Johnstown students an invaluable opportunity to learn about another region, culture, and educational system.
