Why did you come to UPJ?
I came to UPJ because I've loved the University of Pittsburgh since I was a little kid, and UPJ has the environment for learning and living that I can really enjoy. I love how the campus is in the woods, but still near the town of Johnstown. The learning environment is ideal - with the class sizes being small enough that professors will know your name and give you that personal attention you need sometimes. I feel that coming to UPJ has given me the chance to get the best education I can achieve.
How has it helped you - personally or academically?
Personally, UPJ has helped me find out who I am and what kind of person I want to be. Before coming to UPJ, I was always hesitant to ask for help or admit that I didn't know something. Being a student of UPJ, being a part of the smaller, more personal campus has allowed me to feel that I can talk to my professors and not be afraid to admit when I need help. Each and every professor I've had has been willing to give me help and make sure that I wasn't falling behind in class. They want you to learn and to succeed.
What has been your most outstanding UPJ experience and why?
My most outstanding experience was being elected Student Senate President. It is such an incredible feeling to have the student body choose you to lead the student government. I never expected, when I was a freshman, that I could eventually achieve that kind of position. It's given me confidence...when you dream of what you want and work hard at it, you really can achieve it.
