What made you choose UPJ for your undergraduate education?
UPJ was the only school I applied to. After researching colleges, I felt that there was no better college around for the major I was interested in. I didn't want to go to a school that was too far away, and my high school superintendent talked to me about UPJ's great reputation in the field of engineering.
How do you think UPJ is preparing you for the future - personally and professionally?
UPJ gives me an opportunity to experience the real world. Now that I am on my own, I have a lot more responsibilities than I did in high school. The professors encourage me to present myself as a professional. They expect assignments to be done on time and done well, but they set a great example by being patient and accessible when I have questions. My people skills have improved as well. I made a lot of friends in the past year - a direct result of working with other students on group projects.
What's the most surprising thing you've learned about yourself while at UPJ?
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't surprise myself. The fact that I am working so hard to prepare myself for a successful career is a thrill. I'm learning to look to the future as I make decisions about which clubs to join, which intership to select, and how my choices today will impact my future options. My time at UPJ has shown me a different side of myself - learning to trust my instincts while taking advantage of the advice and encouragement of my professors, family, and fellow ET students.
