"My experience at UPJ is unforgettable. Some of my fellow UPJ geology students became my closest friends that I still stay in touch with and see annually...The small size of the department allowed for a lot of direct interaction between students and teachers (a great thing!)." -Ryan Portner, Class of 2000
We are now living in an unusual interval in an unusual age. The age is unusual in being a glacial age; glacial ages have probably occupied only a small fraction of the past history of the earth since the oceans and continents first formed. The interval is unusual in being an interglacial; interglacials are short gaps between the glaciations that make up most of a glacial age.

Geology, the scientific study of the Earth, is primarily a field science, and all the natural wonders of our amazing planet constitute the primary source of data for geologic investigations. Not only do geologists study the processes that shape and make the earth as it is today, but they also study the patterns and processes of earth history as recorded in rocks, fossils, landforms, and geologic structures.
