Commuting

The Office of Student Life recognizes the importance of involving our commuter students. The following opportunities are specifically geared toward UPJ's commuter population:

Commuter Welcome Dinner - held in September every year to welcome our commuters

Commuter Study Nights at Richland Starbucks

Leadership Development Program - offered to suit the busy commuter student schedule

Many of our students live within the commuting distance of campus and do not find it necessary to take advantage of on/ off-campus housing opportunities.  Although you may spend less time on campus than if you lived in one of the residence halls, we hope you will take advantage of some of what we have to offer in terms of co-curricular activities and social or recreational events. We are committed to working with you; both individually and as a group, to enrich your college experience.  These are some of the services that we hope will help provide that enrichment.

UPJ currently offers over 65 Student Organizations in which you can be involved. Many organizations highlight their club during the annual Activities Fair, scheduled during mid-September. Habitat for Humanity, Women in Engineering, Black Action Society and Ski Club are several examples of what we offer. Don't see your interest on our web site? You can start a club by having a minimum of ten people.

Through a workshop series each semester, you can earn a certificate in Leadership Development from the Office of Student Life. Open to all students, this program is especially helpful to those who want to expand self-knowledge, diversity issues, career-related issues and further develop student leadership skills. Join us at any point during the year for a teleconference, workshop or panel discussion.

Need to feel connected? Through Campus Housing, commuter rooms are available through the commuter in residence program. The Office of Student Life also publishes "The Involved Commuter" newsletter each semester and you'll receive it in your campus post office box (another perk of being a commuter at UPJ).
