Freshman Applicants

Terms
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown admits students for Fall (September) Spring (January) and Summer Terms (May, June).

Application Deadline
UPJ practices rolling admission. Rolling admission means that a school does not hold to a specific deadline by which applicants must apply. Applicants are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Space does vary from school to school and program to program, and term to term, so early application is advised. Timely application is especially important for students interested in scholarships and campus residence.

Required Materials

Freshman students interested in applying for admission to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown must submit the following information:

  • Application for admission
  • $45.00 application fee
  • Official scores from either the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of the College Entrance Examination Board
  • Official academic record of all work completed at the secondary level

  • Recommendation letters and a personal essay are highly encouraged.  These materials are important, as they allow you to highlight leadership, athletic, civic, and other talents that are not evident on a transcript or score report.

Admission Decisions
Students are notified of their admission status after all required credentials have been received.

Personal Interview
A personal interview, unless requested by the Admissions Office, is not required. We do, however, welcome and encourage campus visits and informational meetings.

Advanced Placement Credits
UPJ accepts for consideration, exemption, or advanced placement the results of Advanced Placement Tests administered by the College Entrance Examination Board. For more information about Advanced Placement credits, please see the Registrar's Office.

Deposit Information
Applicants who are admitted to Pitt-Johnstown and choose to accept admission must submit a Tuition Deposit of $100 by the deadline specified in the admission notification.  The deposit is applied to the first term's tuition, but is not refundable.
