Professional Writing

UPJ04_0044_w175
Program Description

As of Spring 2009, the Professional Writing track of the English Writing major has been redesigned to do the following:

(1) Emphasize professional coursework, including a tiered system of introductory, intermediate, and advanced writing courses in these areas:

            Creative Nonfiction (Literary Journalism)

            Feature Writing

            Public Relations

            Technical Writing

(2) Incorporate a 15-hour related area in fields where graduating students plan to seek employment, such as business, health care, and social services.

(3) Provide internship opportunities on campus and in the community for students with at least junior standing and a 3.0 grade point average.

Our professional faculty have worked in such fields as journalism, public relations, health care research, and commerce, and have practical writing experience in all these areas.

For more information, see the curriculum check sheet and the faculty page for English Writing.  Written information about related areas is available in the folders outside the Humanities Division office.
