Academic Advising for Undeclared Students

ASC advisors come from a variety of fields, including secondary education, higher education, English, music, social work and student affairs. Our breadth of experiences allow us to help undeclared students with their exploration of majors and the development of their education/career plans. Students are introduced to the numerous resources available within the ASC and UPJ and throughout the University of Pittsburgh institution.

• Students are provided multiple study skills tools (goal setting, test taking, time management, and improving memory, to name a few) and may choose to take a 3-credit course, College Study Strategies to further enhance their level of success.
• Students are provided information about peer tutoring and other resources for academic assistance.
• Students are referred to Career Services and can complete the online Strong Interest Inventory while also having access to the career resources available at Pitt Main, including career developmental information from the career cyber counselor.

As part of the advising process, ASC advisor will encourage to develop lifelong resources and explore educational experiences both within and outside of the classroom and university setting. Students may consider the development of a learning portfolio and assess options for experiential learning.
