Academic Advising

Pre-Business students (those who have not yet declared a career Concentration) are advised on class scheduling as a group. Students will be assigned an individual advisor when they declare their concentration. A student can declare his/her concentration once they have successfully completed a host of pre-business courses. For students who enter as Freshmen at UPJ and initially declare pre-Business as their major, a student will typically declare his/her concentration during the second term of the sophomore year.

Management and Marketing Concentration students are advised by Ms. Neelima Bhatnagar, Dr. John McGrath, Mr. Ronald Vickroy, and Mr. Doug Reed on a scheduled basis. Your request to have a particular advisor will be considered. The Autobiography section may help you in this decision making process. It is important that you find a close fit between you and your advisor.

Individual advising sessions are held during the week or two week period prior to registration. The management faculty will schedule open advising periods during this time. You should contact your advisor in advance to schedule an individual appointment. It is recommended that the student arrive with a tentative schedule of what they would like to take for the upcoming term.

Do not just see your advisors solely for class scheduling. Your advisor can be a sounding board when it comes to career opportunities, resume reviews, class preparation techniques, etc. Therefore, from both an academic and career perspective, it is important for your to develop a close relationship with your advisor.
