JOHNSTOWN, Pa. --
Several local agencies announced a new program to help keep kids safe online.
University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown
officials made the announcement Wednesday at Ferndale Elementary School. The school is teaming up with
UPJ,
the Pennsylvania attorney general's office, local law enforcement and several other area schools to launch the new program. A committee was formed that is to create awareness for parents, educate them in solutions to minimize the risk of Internet predators and give them the technology to do it. They will be holding a forum May 15 at
UPJ
for any parents who want more information on keeping their children safe. A student advisory board is also being formed that will include 19 student leaders trying to reach out to their peers about dangers online. Their first meeting is to take place at Ferndale Elementary School Thursday. Officials said they believe the initiative is the first of its kind in the state.
