Dear Dr. Spectar,
On behalf of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, I would like to personally welcome you as the fifth President of this outstanding undergraduate institution. The arrival of a new president is always a significant historical event in the life of a college, and the campus community eagerly awaits your arrival in July. While our community is deservedly proud of what UPJ has accomplished to date, it also anticipates the achievements of tomorrow, and will readily embrace your leadership for the future.
You will find that UPJ is an especially student-centered institution, and that all of us take great pride in nurturing and sustaining an environment that is conducive to both academic and personal development. One of the most important characteristics of that environment is our size. We are small enough to provide personal attention, and to give each student an opportunity to get to know faculty and staff. At the same time, we are large enough to offer a wide array of academic and co-curricular programs which I am confident you will find to be of high quality. These features are also evident in our focus on encouraging undergraduate research and a variety of learning experiences. Our faculty and staff alike are committed to promoting excellence in all aspects of education, and to providing a range of essential support services to our undergraduates.
As you prepare to join this distinctive educational community, we extend our best wishes, and we welcome you.
