Track Finishes Eighth at Roanoke Invitational
03/17/07...The Pitt Johnstown women's track team opened the 2007 Outdoor Season with an eighth place out of 11 teams finish at the Roanoke (VA) College Invitational on Saturday. Senior Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) earned first place finishes in her flight in the Long Jump and Triple Jump.
Oaks recorded a jump of 4.84m in the Long Jump and a jump of 9.42m in the Triple Jump. Freshmen Deborah Beaver (Millerstown, Pa.) (4.15m) and sophomore Kelly Steiner (Elizabeth, Pa.) (3.66m) placed third and fourth in their flight, respectively in the Long Jump. Junior Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) and sophomore Merissa Larrew (Irwin, Pa.) both placed third in their flights in the Shot Put. Britcher had a throw of 9.82m, and Larrew had a throw of 7.72m. In the Javelin, Larrew finished third in Flight 1 with a throw of 17.81m, while Britcher was sixth in Flight 2 with a throw of 28.46m.
Pitt Johnstown also had place winners in the running events. Freshman Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.) won her section in the 200m with a time of 30.05, while Beaver and sophomore Julie Pennesi (Latrobe, Pa.) placed third and fourth, respectively in their flight. Junior Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.) finished first in Section 1 of the 400m with a time of 1:08.02 and Steiner placed second in the section at 1:16.98. Sophomore Rachele Gentile (North Apollo, Pa.) was third in Section 2 in the 400m. Freshman Kristen Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) finished second in Section 1 of the 800m with a time of 2:46.62.
Roanoke won the team competition with 217 points. Thiel was second (109.5 points), followed by Catholic (D.C.) (105 points), Bridgewater (VA) (78.5 points), Grove City (68 points), Eastern Mennonite (59 points), Charleston (WV) (29 points), PITT JOHNSTOWN (17 POINTS), Christopher Newport (VA) (10 points) and Emory & Henry (VA) (2 points).
Pitt Johnstown travels to West Virginia Wesleyan College on Thursday and to the Clarion University Invitational on Saturday.
