Lady Cat Basketball NCAA Tournament Press Release

Lady Cats to Play Pfeiffer on Friday at 3:00 p.m. 
     03/04/07...For the 16th time in school history, the Lady Cat basketball team earned a bid to the NCAA Division II post-season tournament when the pairings were released Sunday night.  Pitt Johnstown, seeded #7 in the East Region, will take on #2-seeded Pfeiffer (NC) University in Friday’s opening round at 3:00 p.m. at Glenville State (WV) College in Glenville, WV.  Pfeiffer enters the tournament with a 26-4 overall record.  This year’s East Regional bracket will be played Friday, Saturday and Monday, with the champion advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight at the Health & Sports Center in Kearney, NE, March 21, 22 and 24....      Head Coach Jodi Gault, who enters the game with a 539-155 (.778) record in 25 seasons at Pitt Johnstown, has led the Lady Cats to 15 of their 16 NCAA Tournament appearances, including the most recent trip to the East Regional Tournament in 2004.  Pitt Johnstown lost in the first round, 83-71, to Barton (NC) College in the 2004 East Regional Tournament.  Along with the 15 post season tournament appearances, Coach Gault’s Lady Cat have won five Regional Championships and earned a trip to the Final Four in 1987 by defeating top-seeded Delta State (MS) University.
     Pitt Johnstown won 10 of its last 13 games and four straight to end the 2006-07 regular season.  The Lady Cats enter the NCAA Tournament with a 20-7 overall record, following an 88-42 home win over Columbia Union (MD) College on February 27 and a 70-47 home win over the University of the District of Columbia in the regular season finale on February 28.  
     Through 27 games, senior center Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) leads Pitt Johnstown in scoring (17.8 ppg.) and rebounding (8.6 rpg.).  Senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) (17.3 ppg.) and sophomore guard/forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) (10.3 ppg.) are also averaging in double figures in scoring, while senior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) is adding 9.4 points per game.   Red-shirt junior forward Sarah Priest (Johnstown, Pa.) is second on the team in rebounding at 6.6 rebounds per game. 
     Zapf and Krischer are also climbing Lady Cat All-Time record lists.  Zapf is ranked 13th on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,286 points, 54 points behind Janet Hess (1991-95) for 12th place.  Zapf is also in fifth place on the All-Time Rebounding List with 842 career rebounds, five rebounds away from tying Terry Solema (1981-85) for fourth place on the rebounding list.  Krischer stands in 20th place on the scoring list with 1,156 career points, 27 points shy of Lady Cat student assistant coach Samantha Conner (2002-06).
     In the most recent national statistics, Zapf is eighth in Field Goal Percentage, 45th in Points Per Game and 66th in Rebounds Per Game, while Krischer ranks 32nd in Scoring, 37th in Steals Per Game, 46th in Assists Per Game, 76th in Three-Point Field Goal Percentage and 85th in Three-Point Field Goals Per Game.    
     As a team, the Lady Cats are 47th in Won Lost-Percentage (72.0%), 57th in Field Goal Percentage (43.1%), 68th in Steals Per Game (10.5 spg.), 76th in Free-Throw Percentage (71.9%) and 80th in Blocked Shots Per Game (3.1 bpg.).
     Pfeiffer wrapped up the 2006-07 season with a 26-4 overall record, including a 67-54 victory over Anderson (SC) University in the championship game of the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) Tournament on Saturday.
