Wrestlers Sweep Division I Davidson and Duquesne
     02/17/07...
Just 13 hours after battling to a tie with #12 Mercyhurst College on Friday, Head Coach Pat Pecora and the #5-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers took the mat again on Saturday at Duquesne University and swept Division I opponents Davidson (NC) College, 34-10, and the host school, 29-6.  Pitt Johnstown evened its record against Division I teams at 4-4 and finished the regular season with a 21-5-1 record. 

     Pitt Johnstown opened Saturday's action with a 34-10 win over Davidson.  After falling behind 3-0 after the first match, junior All-American and #7-ranked Brandon Reasy (133 lbs.) (New Enterprise, Pa.) gave the Mountain Cats a lead they would never give up with a fall over Christopher Panfili at :29.  #2-ranked Shane Valko (141 lbs.) (Windber, Pa.) and red-shirt freshman Adam Whetstone (149 lbs.) (Claysburg, Pa.) followed with decision wins, before senior National Qualifier Joe Strittmatter (Ebensburg, Pa.) increased the lead to 19-3 with a forfeit victory at 157 lbs. 
     Red-shirt freshman Kyle Keane (165 lbs.) (Clearfield, Pa.) then pinned Trevor Clavette at 4:16.  Davidson scored a major decision win at 174 lbs., but #1-ranked Mike Corcetti (Export, Pa.) picked-up a 9-5 decision over Sam O'Hair in the 184-lb. bout to put Pitt Johnstown up 28-7. 
     A decision win by Davidson at 197 lbs. cut into the Mountain Cat lead, prior to  freshman Chris Dempsey (Sewickley, Pa.) setting the final score at 34-10 win a forfeit victory at heavyweight.
     The Mountain Cats completed the sweep with a 29-6 win over Duquesne.  Pitt Johnstown climbed out to a 10-0 lead on decisions by junior Derrek Bosso (125 lbs.) (Pequea, Pa.) and Reasy (133 lbs.) and a 12-2 major decision by Valko over Jayk Cobbs at 141 lbs.  
     Duquesne got on the scoreboard with a decision win at 149 lbs., but the Mountain Cats won the next four matches.  Strittmatter (157 lbs.) won by decision and junior All-American Albert Miles (165 lbs.) (Canonsburg, Pa.) won by major decision.  Garshnick pinned Ryan Sula at 3:56 at 174 lbs. and Corcetti reamined undefeated on the season with an 11-4 decision over Jared Ricotta at 184 lbs. to put Pitt Johnstown up 26-3.  After a decision win at 197 lbs. by Duquesne, Mountain Cat sophomore heavyweight Jon Neese (Chambersville, Pa.) ended the match with a 5-3 decision over Joe D'Orsie. 
     The Mountain Cats wrap up the 2006-07 dual meet schedule at Duquesne University on Saturday against Division I opponents Duquesne and Davidson (NC) College, before traveling to the 2007 East Regional Tournament at UNC-Pembroke on February 23-24.
