#5 Wrestlers Celebrate Senior Night With 30-9 Win Over #19 Findlay 02/03/07...2007 Senior Night turned out to be a good one for four seniors, as Head Coach Pat Pecora's #5-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers handed #19 University of Findlay (OH) a 30-9 loss Saturday night in the Sports Center. Junior Derrek Bosso (125 lbs.) (Pequea, Pa.) started the match with an impressive 11-3 major decision over Alex Shumaker to put Pitt Johnstown up 4-0. Findlay got right back into the match when 2005 National Champion and 2006 National Runner-up Andy Uhl defeated Mountain Cat All-American Brandon Reasy (New Enterprise, Pa.), 7-5, at 133 lbs. However, that was as close as the Oilers would get. Red-shirt freshman and #2-ranked Shane Valko (Windber, Pa.) answered with a 6-2 win over Mike Peraino at 141 lbs., before Cook (149 lbs.) pinned Ali Nour at 4:46 to increase the lead to 13-3. The Oliers made it 13-6 when 2006 National Champion Antonio Guerro scored a 7-3 decision over senior and 2006 National Qualifier Joe Strittmatter (Ebensburg, Pa.) at 157 lbs, but All-American Albert Miles' (Canonsburg, Pa.) (165 lbs.) fall over Justin Shannon at 2:12 gave Pitt Johnstown a 19-6 lead. Senior Eli Garshnick (174 lbs.) (Armagh, Pa.), ranked #7 in the nation, earned a 7-3 decision over Richard Goss, while #1-ranked Mike Corcetti (Export, Pa.) remained undefeated and improved to 26-0 with a 17-1 technical fall over Cody Reitmeirer at 6:07in the 184-lb. bout. Senior National Qualifier and #6-ranked Mike Fowler (197 lbs.) (Carrolltown, Pa.) followed with a 10-3 decision over Andy Zalaiskalns, before Findlay's Travis Clark set the final score at 30-9 with 2-1 decision over Jon Neese (Chambersville, Pa.) at heavyweight. With the loss, The Oilers dropped to 3-7 on the season. Prior to the match, Coach Pecora and the Mountain Cat wrestling program recognized this year's seniors, Brian Cook (149 lbs.), Mike Fowler (197 lbs.), Eli Garshnick (174 lbs.) and Joe Strittmatter (157 lbs.). The Mountain Cats travel to #13 Mercyhurst College on Friday, February 16 and to Duquesne University where they will wrap up the regular season against Division I opponents Duquesne and Davidson (NC) College on Saturday, February 17.
