#5 Wrestlers Score 26-13 Home win Over #12 Ashland 01/31/07...The #5-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers made it 12 straight wins and improved to 18-5 on the year with a 26-13 victory over Ashland (OH) University, Wednesday night in the Sports Center. Red-shirt freshman Shane Valko (Windber, Pa.), ranked #2 in the nation, pinned #7 Tony Iovine to lead the Mountain Cat attack. Pitt Johnstown jumped out to a 15-0 lead and never looked back. Sophomore Scott Morgan (125 lbs.) (North Huntingdon, Pa.) got things going with an injury default victory over Ryan Belcher at 1:18. All-American and #7 ranked Brandon Reasy (New Enterprise, Pa.) earned a 4-1 win over Kyle Kanaga at 133 lbs., before Valko pinned Iovine at 4:47 to put Pitt Johnstown up 15-0. Ashland answered with wins at 149 lbs. and 157 lbs. Marcus Gordon, ranked #6 in the country, scored a 9-3 win over Mountain Cat red-shirt freshman Ryan McIntyre (Claysburg, Pa.) at 149 lbs., and Tony Bradberry picked up an 8-0 major decision over senior National Qualifier Joe Strittmatter (157 lbs.) (Ebensburg, Pa.) to pull the Eagles to 15-7. However, that would be as close as Ashland would get. Junior All-American Albert Miles (165 lbs.) (Canonsburg, Pa.) followed with an 18-4 major decision over David Bowman to increase the lead to 19-7. A decision win by the Eagles at 174 lbs. cut the score to 19-10, but undefeated and #1-ranked Mike Corcetti (Export, Pa.) improved to 25-0 with an impressive 14-4 win over Matt Allen at 184 lbs. Senior National Qualifier and #6-ranked Mike Fowler (197 lbs.) (Carrolltown, Pa.) earned and 8-1 over David Crowley to raise the lead to 26-10, before Ashland's #5-ranked Josh Ohl won 14-8 over freshman Chris Dempsey (Sewickley, Pa.) in the heavyuweight bout to set the final score at 26-13. with the loss, Ashland dropped to 7-6 on the season. The Mountain Cats will wrap-up the 2006-07 home schedule with Senior Night against #19 University of Findlay (OH) on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Prior to the match, the Mountain Cat wrestling program will recognize this year's seniors, Brian Cook (149 lbs.), Mike Fowler (197 lbs.), Eli Garshnick (174 lbs.) and Joe Strittmatter (157 lbs.).
