Show-Stopping Fiddle and Violin Virtuosos Take the Stage
Article Body
The finest lineup of fiddle and violin virtuosos ever assembled on stage, Bowfire will bring their “must see” event to the Mainstage of the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown campus at 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 20.
Bowfire takes audience members on a musical journey that moves seamlessly from jazz, classical, bluegrass, Celtic, rock, gypsy, world, Texas swing, and Ottawa Valley and Cape Breton styles and mixes in incredible step and tap dancing and a beautiful voice.
The Bowfire company is composed of virtuoso string players who are at the forefront of their respective styles, combined with equally gifted and respected backup musicians: piano/keyboards, bass, drums/percussion, guitars and cello. Fiddlers in the company are world-class step and tap dancers. The company is assembled and guided by Creator and Artistic Director, Lenny Solomon and Broadway acclaimed Stage Director, Marion J. Caffey.
Bowfire, which was formed in June 2000, made its debut performance the following month at Expo 2000 in Hanover, Germany. Audience response was wildly enthusiastic and the group was invited to perform on the Governor-General’s Awards telecast, the Canadian equivalent of the United States Kennedy Center Honors which aired throughout Canada in January 2001. The ensemble made its American debut in a series of performances during the summer of 2001 in New York City, and embarked on the first U.S. tour in the fall of 2002. In December 2003 Bowfire made its Asian debut with performances in Taiwan.
The event is being sponsored by the Pasquerilla Family Fine Arts Endowment.
Advance interviews with the artists may be arranged by calling the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center at 814-269-7200.
Tickets may be purchased by calling the ArtsLine at 1-800-846-ARTS from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Tickets are $20. Discount tickets of $17 are being offered to senior citizens (over 65 years of age), students under 18, and members of the Pitt Johnstown community (faculty, staff, and card-carrying members of the Pitt Johnstown Alumni Association). There is a $2 handling fee on telephone and mail orders. The box office is open for in-person sales from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The box office also opens one hour before performances.
The Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center is a multi-purpose facility operated by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. The Arts Center presents a variety of events including musicals, adult and children’s theatre, dance and music productions to 12,000 patrons annually.
