#5 Wrestlers Earn, 22-15, Win at Kutztown 01/06/07...Head Coach Pat Pecora's #5-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers battled back from a 15-10 deficit after seven bouts to earn a 22-15 victory at East Region rival Kutztown University, Saturday afternoon. Red-shirt Freshman Shane Valko (141 lbs.) (Windber, Pa.) and freshman heavyweight Chris Dempsey (Sewickley, Pa.) each won by fall to help Pitt Johnstown improve to 5-4 on the year. Junior Derrek Bosso (125 lbs.) (Pequea, Pa.) won a 15-4 major decision over Cory Weiss to start the match, and Valko pinned Brett Martinez at 4:30 to give the Mountain Cats a 10-3 lead after three matches. However, Kutztown won the next four bouts by decision, including an 11-7 overtime victory by David Zeek over seniro National Qualifier Joe Strittmatter (Ebensburg, Pa.) at 157 lbs., to take a 15-10 lead. That's when the Mountain Cats took control of the match. Junior National Runner-up Mike Corcetti (Export, Pa.) pulled Pitt Johnstown to 16-13 and improved to 15-0 on the season with a 6-0 win over Roy Geselosky at 184 lbs. Senior National Qualifier Mike Fowler (197 lbs.) (Carrolltown, Pa.) put Pit Johnstown in the lead for good with a 5-3 win over Kyle Davis, before Dempsey closed out the match with a fall over Rich Dalmas at 1:23 to set the final score at 22-15. With the loss, the Golden Bears fell to 2-1. The Mountain Cats travel to the 2007 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Dual Meet Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, before returning home to host the 2007 East Coast Duals on Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20 in the Sports Center. Wrestling will begin on January 19 at 6:00 p.m. and at 9:00 a.m. on January 20.
