     12/29/06...
Junior Derrek Bosso (Pequea, Pa.) earned the championship at 125 lbs. and 2006 National Runner-up Mike Corcetti (Export, Pa.) claimed the title at 184 lbs. to lead eight Mountain Cat wrestlers who finished in the top three at Thursday's 74th Wilkes Open Wrestling Tournament.
Bosso, who finished the tournament with a 4-0 record, defeated Penn State's Eric Caschera, 12-1, Nassau Community College's Greg Popko, 18-1 and Boston University's Abbie Rush, 6-5, before winning the title with a 3-1 win over teammate Scott Morgan (North Huntingdon, Pa.) in the championship match.
Corcetti, the nation's top-ranked wrestler at 184 lbs., cruised to the championship with an 8-3 decision over Kenji Porter (Columbia), a fall at 2:35 over Martino Sottile (Nassau Community College) and an 11-4 decision over Phil Bomberger (Penn State) to reach the title bout.  In that match, Corcetti dominated Maine's Pat Hogan and earned a 17-2 technical fall to win the championship.
Senior National Qualifier Joe Strittmatter (157 lbs.) (Ebensburg, Pa.), 2006 All-American Albert Miles (165 lbs.) and senior National Qualifier Mike Fowler (197 lbs.) (Carrolltown, Pa.) all placed second, while All-American Brandon Reasy (133 lbs.) (New Enterprise, Pa.) rebounded from an opening round loss to finish third.  Sophomore heavyweight Jon Neese (Chambersville, Pa.) also placed third for Head Coach Pat Pecora's Mountain Cats.
The Mountain Cats travel to Kutztown University on January 6 and to the 2007 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals at Northern Iowa University on January 13-14, before returning home to host the 2007 East Coast Duals on Janaury 19-20 in the Sports Center.
