Shane Valko's Three Wins Lead Wrestlers at Penn State Open

Pitt Johnstown red-shirt freshman Shane Valko (141 lbs.) (Windber, Pa.) started with three straight wins and finished with a a 3-1 record at Sunday's Penn State Open to lead the Mountain Cat wresters who attended the tournament.  Valko opted out of the tournament after suffering a loss to Reece Humphrey, who wrestled unnattached from Ohio State.
     Valko opened the tournament with a fall and a pair of decision victories, before Humphrey defeated him, 9-3.  Valko then opted out of the tournament with a medical forfeit.
     Senior Brian Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa.) collected two victories at 149 lbs., while heavyweights Jon Neese (Chambersville, Pa.) and Chris Dempsey (Sewickley, Pa.) also won two matches.  Neese had a fall and a medical forfeit win, while Dempsey recorded two falls.  Red-shirt freshman Adam Whetstone (Claysburg, Pa.) rounded out the Mountain Cat wrestlers who had two wins with a pair of decisions.
     The Mountain Cats travel to the Clarion University Duals on December 17, where they will wrestle Division I opponents Lock Haven University, Kent State (OH) University and Clarion.  Pitt Johnstown will host its next home event on January 19-20 when it hosts the 2007 East Coast Duals in the Sports Center.
