#5 Wrestlers Open Dual Meet Schedule With 37-0 Shutout at #12 West Liberty State 11/11/06...Head Coach Pat Pecora and his #5-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers opened the 2006-07 dual meet schedule with an impressive 37-0 shutout at #12 West Liberty State (WV) College, Saturday night. Senior 2005 All-American Eli Garshnick's (Armagh, Pa.) 8-6 overtime win over 2006 All-American Tommy Clark highlighted Pitt Johnstown's shutout effort. Pitt Johnstown, featuring four All-Americans, two National Qualifiers, a pair of red-shirt freshman and a true freshman in the line-up, cruised to the victory. Pitt Johnstown jumped out to a 12-0 lead on decision wins by red-shirt freshman Adam Whetstone (125 lbs.) (Claysburg, Pa.), senior All-American Brandon Reasy (133 lbs.) (New Enterprise, Pa.) red-shirt freshman Shane Valko (141 lbs.) (Windber, Pa.) and senior Bian Cook (149 lbs.) (Pittsburgh, Pa.). The Mountain Cats increased the lead to 16-0 when senior National Qualifier Joe Strittmatter (Ebensburg, Pa.) eaned a 15-2 major decision over Justin Goneau at 157 lbs. Junior All-American Albert Miles (165 lbs.) (Canonsburg, Pa.) followed with a 5-2 decision over Brad Steinbach, before Garshnick dealt Clark, who placed sixth at last year's National Tournament, the 8-6 overtime loss. With a 22-0 lead and the victory already secured, Pitt Johnstown finished the match with a decision by 2006 National Runner-Up Mike Corcetti (184 lbs.) (Export, Pa.), an injury default win by National Qualifier Mike Fowler (Carrolltown, Pa.) at 197 lbs. and a fall by true freshman Chris Dempsey (Sewickley, Pa.) over Joey McGee in the heavyweight bout. The Mountain Cats travel to the Pennsylvania State Duals at Lock Haven University on Sunday, November 19 where they will wrestle York College, Penn State University and Lehigh University. Pitt Johnstown will then host its first dual meet of the 2006-07 season on Friday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. when Shippensburg University visits the Sports Center.
