Women's Soccer Battles to 2-2 Tie at PSU-Altoona
10/18/06...Head Coach Crystal Dye's women's soccer team took a 2-1 halftime lead at Penn State-Altoona, but the Lions scored midway through the second half to force a 2-2 double-overtime time Wendesday night. With the tie, Pitt Johnstown is now 9-3-1 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown took a 1-0 lead on sophomore midfielder Alyssa McKinney's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) goal at 1:45 of the first half, before Penn State-Altoona answered to tie the score in the 21st minute. Once again, Pitt Johnstown grabbed the lead on Alicia Zack's (Irwin, Pa.) 16th goal of the season at 37:33. The scored remained the same until the Lions' Brittany Bovard found the back of the net in the 62nd minute. Both teams battled through the end of regulation and a pair of overtimes, but neither was able to score.
Pitt Johnstown outshot Penn State-Altoona, 21-8 for the match and held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Anna Yarnall (Allentown, Pa.) made three saves for Pitt Johnstown, while Carol Opiela made six saves for the Lions. Yarnall is now 9-3-1 on the year.
With the tie, Penn State-Altoona is now 4-5-4.
Pitt Johnstown travels to Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday, before returning home to celebrate Senior Day against Chatham College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
