Nominations Being Accepted for President's Staff Award for Excellence in Service to the Community
Article Body
Community members are being invited to submit nominations for the award established by UPJ President Dr. Albert L. Etheridge to honor the increasing level of service by UPJ to the community.
Results of a recent university economic impact study demonstrated that 80% of all UPJ employees contributed to more than $720,000 of annual in-kind services. The newer award established in 2005 is an expansion of a service award originally created in 1999.
The deadline for nominations for the President’s Staff Award for Excellence in Service to the Community is Friday, October 13.
This award will be presented at the annual staff luncheon held each year in December. A $1,000 check and clock engraved with the recipient’s name, year, and name of the award will be given.
Linus “Ron” Pryal was the recipient of the first annual President’s Staff Award for Excellence in Service to the Community. Mr. Pryal has worked tirelessly and unselfishly for over 10 years with the Somerset County Habitat for Humanity. As chair of the building committee, he has helped to procure funding, serve as the project and site manager, and rustle up a bevy of volunteers for each undertaking. His “elbow grease and leadership has led to the completion of 10 homes for families in the Somerset County area.”
The criteria for the award includes a consistent pattern of voluntary service of significant importance to the Greater Johnstown community, the local community and/or professional organizations internally, locally, regionally, nationally or internationally. In addition, contributions to the success of their unit/department are important criteria, as well as working collaboratively with colleagues to further the interests and progress of UPJ.
Anyone interested in nominating a UPJ staff member can download an application form at

Completed nomination forms should be submitted to the Selection Committee c/o Judi McGuirk, committee chair, 157 Blackington Hall, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Johnstown, PA 15904; fax: 269-7044; e-mail:
mcguirk@pitt.edu
, or phone 269-7043. The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 13.
