2006 Women's Soccer SEASON PREVIEW
08/25/06...
2006 will mark just the second season ever for Pitt Johnstown women’s soccer. After posting a respectable 4-8-0 record in the program’s inaugural season in 2005,
Head Coach Crystal Dye (2nd year)
returns five players, including senior midfielder
Kellie Stevens (Davidsville, Pa.)
, Pitt Johnstown’s leading scorer. However, 11 freshmen, six of whom will join the starting line-up, will have to join the veteran players and tackle a full 18-match schedule.
Stevens
returns to anchor the middle after leading Pitt Johnstown with 16 points on eight goals.
Coach Dye
also welcomes back the team’s next three leading scorers from a year ago. Sophomore midfielder
Alyssa McKinney (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
tallied six points on three goals, while junior defender
Anna Yarnall (Allentown, Pa.
) collected a goal and three assists for five points and senior forward
Erin Brady (Donegal, Pa.)
chipped in four points on a goal and two assists.
With just five players returning from last season,
Coach Dye
must rely on several freshman to step into the starting line-up, including in the net.
Despite the youth,
Coach Dye
expects to see improvement from her team day by day. Pitt Johnstown’s women’s soccer program is still in the building process, but
Coach Dye
hopes to get things turned around beginning in 2006. With daily improvement and some experience from this year’s squad and a few solid recruiting classes in the upcoming years, Pitt Johnstown women’s soccer should be on the road to success.
