University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Judicial Board

The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Judicial Board is the duly authorized judicial body which has jurisdiction over undergraduate students for matters arising from the Student Code of Conduct and Terms and Conditions of Residence and Dining at Pitt-Johnstown. In all cases, the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Judicial Board shall possess the authority to recommend and impose both residence hall and Univesity-wide sanctions. The Judicial Board shall conduct hearings, make findings of facts, recommend and impose disciplinary sanctions where appropriate, and provide due process for students while protecting the rights of all members of the University community.

JUDICIAL BOARD STRUCTURES

1. During the Fall & Spring terms, the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Judicial Board shall be a standing body of at least 12 members.

2. The term of Judicial Board members shall begin in August and continue for Fall and Spring terms only.

APPOINTMENT TO THE STUDENT JUDICIAL BOARD

Applications shall be solicited in the spring term by the Coordinator of Judicial Affairs which shall be representative of the University community.  Applications are available online at the Pitt-Johnstown website and in G-04 Student Union.  Students shall meet the following requirements:

  1. Must be registered as a full-time student.
  2. Must be a second term first year student, or sophomore, junior or senior.
  3. Must be in good academic standing.
  4. Must not be on academic or disciplinary sanctions.
  5. Must not be on residence hall suspension or dismissal.

Applicants shall be interviewed by the Coordinator of Judicial Affairs and appointments shall be made by the Vice President for Student Affairs based upon the recommendations of the Coordinator of Judicial Affairs. 

REMOVAL OF A UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH AT JOHNSTOWN JUDICIAL BOARD MEMBER

A member of the Judicial Board shall be removed automatically for the following:

  1. Academic probation
  2. Disciplinary probation
  3. Residence Hall Suspension
  4. Residence Hall Dismissal
  5. Failure to uphold the confidentiality aspects of the Judicial Board

A member may be removed by a majority vote of the Judicial Board membership for failure to discharge the responsibilities of his/ her position. Such charges shall be heard at a meeting of the full membership and a member so charged may be removed by a majority vote of the campus Judicial Board membership.

JUDICIAL BOARD HEARINGS AND HEARING OFFICER HEARINGS

A matter submitted for adjudication shall be heard by a Hearing Board of three (3) members during the Fall/ Spring Term or a Hearing Officer to be appointed by the Coordinator or designee. During the Summer Term all cases will be heard by a Hearing Officer. In the absence of the availability of a Judicial Board, the Coordinator or designee may appoint a Hearing Officer who shall reccomend a decision to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
