     07/01/06...
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and Seton Hill University assumed membership in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) on July 1.  Each school will begin playing league schedules during the 2007-08 academic year.  However, Pitt Johnstown and Seton Hill athletes will be eligible for individual conference honors during the upcoming season.

The Pennsylvania-based schools are the first WVIAC members from outside of West Virginia since Morehead State departed the league in 1933.  The WVIAC will be the the largest conference in the NCAA Division II ranks with 16 members in 2006-07.
Pitt Johnstown will become eligible for conference championships in the 2007-08 season, while Seton Hill will be eligible for WVIAC championships concurrent with the institution's NCAA championship eligibility.
Pitt Johnstown was previously an NCAA Division II independent, and Seton Hill was a member of the NAIA American Mideast Conference.
The WVIAC, which is entering its 83rd season in existence, has been a member conference of the NCAA's Division II since 1995. The league is celebrating the 25th anniversary of women's athletics within the WVIAC during 2006-07.
2006-07 members of the WVIAC include: Alderson-Broaddus College, Bluefield State College, the University of Charleston, Concord University, Davis & Elkins College, Fairmont State University, Glenville State College, Ohio Valley University, Pitt Johnstown, Salem International University, Seton Hill University, Shepherd University, West Liberty State College, West Virginia State University, West Virginia Wesleyan College, and Wheeling Jesuit University
