The Stage Door Series For Schools to Present Two Sold-Out Performances of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"
Article Body
Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia will bring its stage production,
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
, to life in two sold-out performances at 10 a.m. and noon, Tuesday, May 16, on the Mainstage of the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown campus.
Based on the children’s favorite book by author and illustrator Eric Carle,
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
follows the wonderful adventures of a very tiny and very hungry caterpillar that progresses through an amazing variety of foods towards his eventual metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly.
Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia’s unique adaptations of children’s literature have delighted more than three million young people on four continents. The company ranks among North America’s most respected theatres for the young, and has won widespread recognition for its important ambassadorial role. The group regularly crosses North America, and has represented Canada in Japan, Mexico, Australia, England, Ireland, Holland, Scotland, Wales, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
Mermaid Theatre’s emphasis is on imaginative design elements, original music, and challenging texts providing a rich opportunity to acquaint young spectators with the visual and performing arts, as well as with the pleasures of reading.
The Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center is a multi-purpose facility operated by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. The Arts Center presents a variety of events including musicals, adult and children’s theatre, dance, and musical productions to 12,000 patrons annually.
