Watkins Second in E.R.A. in NCAA Baseball Statistical Categories 05/06/09...Head Coach Todd Williams' Mountain Cat baseball team and several individuals were ranked among the leaders in the NCAA Division II baseball statistical categories when this week's statistics were released on Tuesday. Senior right-hander Ben Watkins (Tire Hill, Pa.), the WVIAC Pitcher of the Year, was second in earned-run-average and third in walks allowed per nine innings. Watkins, a three-time WVIAC Pitcher of the Week recipient in 2009, ranked second in earned run average (.84), third in walks allowed per nine innings (.68), 20th in strikeouts per nine innings (10.64), 22nd in hits allowed per nine innings (6.59) and 71st in victories (7). Sophomore right-hander Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) ranked 32nd in strikeouts per nine innings (10.25), 48th in E.R.A. (2.61) and 70th in hits allowed per nine innings (7.64), while senior closer Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) was 56th in saves with five. Offensively, Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) ranked 20th in doubles per game (.44) and 44th in doubles (19). Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) was 40th in batting average (.426), 43rd in runs batted-in per game (1.25), 50th in slugging percentage (.730) and 70th in RBI (55). Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) ranked 59th in triples (4) and 68th in triples per game (.09). As a team, the Mountain Cats were 13th in E.R.A. (3.73), 16th in triples per game (.41), 19th in hits allowed per nine innings (8.76), 24th in triples (18), 25th in strikeouts per nine innings (8.0), 38th in walks allowed per nine innings (3.15), 43rd in fielding percentage (.963), 46th in doubles per game (2.09), 58th in won/lost percentage (.659), and 63rd in slugging percentage (.488). NCAA statistics will be released weekly throughout the 2009 season.
