
Baseball Set For Senior Weekend Against Seton Hill at Point Stadium
04/18/08...Head Coach Todd Williams and the Mountain Cat baseball team, ranked #5 in the initial NCAA North Atlantic Regional poll, will celebrate Senior Weekend with a four-game WVIAC Northern Division series against Seton Hill University on Saturday and Sunday at Johnstown’s Point Stadium. Saturday’s doubleheader will start at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday’s games will begin at 1:00 p.m.
The WVIAC Northern Division championship will on the line when the Mountain Cats and Griffins bring identical 8-4 conference records into the final weekend of the 2008 regular season.
Pitt Johnstown will recognize seniors Dan DelSignore (Johnstown, Pa.), David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.), Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) and Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) between games of Sunday’s doubleheader,. In addition, Pitt Johnstown will host a “Community Picnic” on Sunday with hotdogs and snacks.
The Mountain Cats, 28-15-1 overall, are coming off of a 9-6 and 10-1 home sweep over Fairmont State on Wednesday. Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) had two doubles and four RBI’s in the opener, before belting a three-run homerun in the nightcap to lead Pitt Johnstown to the sweep.
Through 44 games, Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) leads Pitt Johnstown in hitting at .397. Sophomore third baseman Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) is second at .394, while DelSignore is third at .372. Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) and Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) lead the Mountain Cats in homeruns with seven apiece, while Hanley’s 38 RBI pace the team. On the Mound, freshman right hander Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) has a team-best 5-0 record. Junior Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) leads the Mountain Cats with a 2.87 E.R.A. in 31.1 innings-pitched. Faint also paces the team with seven saves.
Seton Hill, under Head Coach Marc Marizzaldi, has won eight of their last 11 games. The Griffins split with IUP on Wednesday. Seton Hill earned a 6-4 win in game one, but suffered a 17-14 loss in game two.
The Mountain Cats will break for finals week, before traveling to Davis & Elkins on April 29. Pitt Johnstown will also host the 2008 WVIAC Tournament from May 2-4 at the Point Stadium.
