The New Pitt-Johnstown Nursing Alumni Student Award

In honor of the 25^th anniversary of the RN-BSN program at Pitt-Johnstown, we are establishing the new Pitt-Johnstown Nursing Alumni Student Award.  We hope you will contribute to begin this Award.

You are one of more than 500 indivifduals who have earned your Bachelor's degree through the RN-BSN Program at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.  You might also be one of over 90 students who have earned the School Nurse Certificate.  Like you, many of the RNs who return to cofmplete degrees are employed full-time and many are spouses and/or parents.  Scholarship opportunities make completion of the degree possible for many of our nurses.  Students who received financial assistance this year said the money helped relieve a major strain on finances; further their education next year; pay for books and fuel costs; pay the remainder of tuition; and pay on loans.  One student said, "You have no idea how much I needed the money and appreciate it, thank you".

This nursing program began because nursing leaders in the Johnstown area believed it was urgent that nurses be able to obtain a BSN degree while remaining in this area to provide care to our residents.  The program is still benefiting nurses and the community 25 years later and we anticipate that it will continue to benefit the community well into the future.

Join us in celebrating 25 years of the RN-BSN Program at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.  In honor of this milestone anniversary and the nurses who attended or will attend the program in the future, we hope you will support this Award.  This Award will be funded by those who have completed the program and perhaps those who remember what it was like to need financial assistance.  It will live on at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in the name of all the nurses who have completed the program.  I hope your name will join others on the list!
