East Region #10 Lady Cats Earn 62-60 Victory at East Region #5 California (PA)

Lady Cat basketball team traveled to East Region #5 California University (PA) on Wednesday and snapped the Vulcans' 18-game home winning streak with a 62-60 victory.  Junior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) scored 14 points off of Coach Gault's bench to lead four Pitt Johnstown players who scored in double figures.  The Lady Cats, ranked 10th in the East Region, improved to 12-6 on the season.

     Along with Oaks, who finished 5-11 from the field, including 2-3 from three-point range and 2-2 from the free-throw line, red-shirt freshman guard Crystal Andrews (Johnstown, Pa.) (13 points), junior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) (12 points) and junior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (11 points) also scored in double figures.  Senior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) and senior guard Jaclyn Schirf (Loretto, Pa.) each pulled down five rebounds, while Andrews made a game-high seven steals and Oaks dished out a team-high five assists for the Lady Cats.  Conner also scored eight points to move into 24th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,043 points.
     Pitt Johnstown built a 33-29 halftime lead, but California (PA) opened the second half on an 8-3 run to take the lead.  However, the Lady Cats battled back to take a five-point lead with 1:48 to play in the game.  The Vulcans cut the lead to two points with :26 to play, but Megan Storck's jump shot as time expired bounced off the rim, giving Pitt Johnstown an exciting win.
     The Lady Cats shot 45.0% (27-60) from the field and 3-11 (27.3%) from behind the three-point line, while holding the Vulcans to just 38.1% (24-63) from the field and 23.8% (5-21) from three-point range.  Pitt Johnstown, which was out rebounded 46-34, forced 24 turnovers and turned them into 20 points. 
     Kim Nowakowski and Storck each scored 15 points to lead California (PA).  Nowakowski also grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and Storck dished out seven assists for the Vulcans', whose eight-game winning streak came to an end.  California (PA) is now 14-4.
     The Lady Cats return home to host Indiana University (PA) for Alumni Day on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
