Thad Benton Earns Career Win #100 as #3 Mountain Cat Wrestlers Defeat #16 Gannon, 44-3 01/25/06...Senior National Champion Thad Benton (141 lbs.) (Claysburg, Pa.) recorded a 9-0 major decision over Joe Cavalier to become the 17th Mountain Cat wrestler to reach the 100-career-victory mark as Head Coach Pat Pecora's #3-ranked wrestlers earned a dominating, 44-3, win over #16 Gannon University, Wednesday night in the Sports Center. Pitt Johnstown is now 20-4 on the year. Along with Benton's milestone victory, senior National Runner-up Ryon Mazzocco (125 lbs.) (Cresson, Pa.), sophomore Rob Sakmar (165 lbs.) (Johnstown, Pa.), junior Mike Fowler (197 lbs.) (Carrolltown, Pa.) and senior two-time National Qualifier Zach Majocha (HWT.) (Upper Burrell, Pa.) all won by fall for the Mountain Cats. Sophomore Joe Strittmater (Ebensburg, Pa.) earned a major decision at 157 lbs., while junior Adam Musisko (174 lbs.) (McKeesport, Pa.) won by decision and sophomore Tom Brambley (133 lbs.) (Breezewood, Pa.) won by forfeit. In the match of the night, sophomore All-American and #1-ranked Mike Corcetti (Export, Pa.) claimed an exciting, 17-13, victory over 2005 National Qualifier Jacob Tazzi at 184 lbs. Gannon's lone win came on All-American and #3-ranked R.J. Paterniti's 11-5 decision over Eric Svec in the 149-lb. bout. With the loss, Gannon fell to 3-5 on the season. Pitt Johnstown travels to Ashland (OH) University on Friday, February 3 and to the University of Findlay (OH) on Saturday, February 4, before returning home to host NCAA Division I Slippery Rock University on Thursday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
