West Liberty State Deals Lady Cats, 71-63, Road Loss

Senior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) poured in a game-high 21 points and red-shirt freshman guard Crystal Andrews (Johnstown, Pa.) added 20 points and a team-high nine rebounds, but it wasn't enough to lead the Lady Cats to a victory, as East Region #8-ranked West Liberty State (WV) College dealt East Region #10 Pitt Johnstown a 71-63 road loss on Monday.  The Lady Cats fell to 11-6 on the year.
     Conner connected on 10-20 from the field and 1-2 from the free-throw line to tie Deb Deaner (1975-1979) for 26th on the Lady Cat All-time Scoring List with 1,035 points.  Conner also grabbed one rebound to move into 24th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 475 rebounds.  Andrews was 9-19 from the field, including 2-4 from thre-point range.  Junior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) chipped in eight points and grabbed three rebounds, and junior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied six points and four rebounds in the loss.  With her four rebounds, Zapf is now ranked 18th on the All-Time Rebounding list with 533 rebounds.
     Pitt Johnstown built a 33-29 halftime lead, but the Hilltoppers outscored the Lady Cats, 42-30, in the second half to claim the eight-point victory.  The Lady Cats finished the game shooting 40.8% (29-71) from the field and 42.9% (3-7) from the free-throw line, while West Liberty State shot 27-54 (50.0%) from the field and 11-13 (84.6%) from the free-throw line.  The Hilltoppers, who out rebounded the Lady Cats 41-31, also made six three-pointers, compared to just two for Pitt Johnstown.  
     Leighann Fry's 19 points and game-high 12 rebounds led the way for West Liberty State.  Charity Street had 17 points and six rebounds, while Lena Kalvans ended with 11 points and seven rebounds for the Hilltoppers, now 13-2 on the season.
     The Lady Cats travel to California University (PA) on Wednesday, before returning home to host Indiana University (PA) for Alumni Day on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
