Article Body

It is with pride that I announce that Andrea J. Leibfreid and Linus R. “Ron” Pryal have been recognized by Chancellor Mark Nordenberg for distinguished service.

Andrea J. LeibfreidAndrea has received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Service to the University, an award that recognizes outstanding service to the University outside of the normal work environment and exceptional contributions toward efficiency in the workplace.

Andrea, who joined UPJ 1980, is an administrative assistant in the Division of Social Sciences.  In addition to having served as President of the UPJ Staff Activities and Concerns Association for the past three years, Andrea has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving communication among the staff and encouraging staff involvement in campus activities.  She led the effort to implement a recognition program for new staff, and coordinates UPJ employee involvement in community service activities including the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk and Johnstown FolkFest.  She also serves as a staff representative to the UPJ Advisory Board and the Johnstown Planning and Budget Committee

Linus R. (Ron) PryalRon has received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Service to the Community, which recognizes a consistent pattern of voluntary service of significant importance to the local community and a steady pattern of dedication to the University.

Ron joined UPJ in 1983 as is employed as Machine Shop Supervisor in the Engineering Technology Division.  Recognized for his extensive work on behalf of Somerset County Habitat for Humanity, Ron has been involved as a volunteer for the organization for over 10 years.  Ron currently serves as Chair of the Build Committee and was instrumental in the completion of 10 homes for families in the Somerset County area.  Testament to Ron’s commitment to Habitat for Humanity is the fact that Ron has not had more than five free weekends since he became involved with the organization.

Andrea and Ron were among only a few staff within the entire University of Pittsburgh System to receive these prestigious awards.  Please join me in congratulating them on earning this extremely commendable recognition from the University.
