President's Awards for Excellence in Service 2005

Article Body

Since 1999, the President’s Staff Award for Excellence in Service has been given to staff members who have demonstrated dedication to the University beyond the responsibilities of their job.  As a way of recognizing the increasing involvement of our employees in the community, I have created two Staff Excellence in Service Awards this year: the Staff Award for Excellence in Service to UPJ, and the Staff Award for Excellence in Service to the Community.

I am pleased to announce that Linus R. “Ron” Pryal has received the President’s Award for Excellence in Service to the Community, and Jeanne M. Susko has received the President’s Award for Excellence in Service to UPJ.

Linus R. (Ron) PryalRon joined UPJ in 1983 as is employed as Machine Shop Supervisor in the Engineering Technology Division.  Recognized for his extensive work on behalf of Somerset County Habitat for Humanity, Ron has been involved as a volunteer for the organization for over 10 years.  Ron currently serves as Chair of the Building Committee and was instrumental in the completion of 10 homes for families in the Somerset County area.  Testament to Ron’s commitment to Habitat for Humanity is the fact that Ron has not had more than five free weekends since he became involved with the organization.
Jeanne M. SuskoJeanne, a 1985 graduate of UPJ, joined the staff in 1985 and is currently Coordinator of Community Programming through the Office of Outreach and Professional Services.  Throughout her employment at UPJ, Jeanne has been actively involved in a number of projects, committees and initiatives on our campus.  Most recently, Jeanne was involved in the Operation Support Our Troops, Hurricane Katrina Relief, the UPJ Family Holiday Project, and Salvation Army’s Project Bundle-Up.  Jeanne also currently serves on the Johnstown Planning and Budget Committee, and is a staff volunteer each year at Freshman Move-In Day.

Both Ron and Jeanne represent a commitment to service and dedication to others that has helped the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown excel as a leader both civically and academically.  Please join me in congratulating them on their awards.
