Lady Cats' 10-Game Winning Streak Snapped With 55-49 Loss at Edinboro
01/11/06...Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cat basketball team's 10-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night with a 55-49 loss at Edinboro University. Junior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburhg, Pa.), who led three Lady Cats who scored in double figures, tallied 13 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. With the loss, Pitt Johnstown is now 11-3 on the season.
Zapf's 13 points came on 6-11 shooting from the field and 1-1 from the free-thow line, while six of her 11 rebounds came on the offensive end. Along with Zapf, senior center Samantha Connor (Everett, Pa) finished with 12 points, including 4-4 from the free throw line, to move to within 21 points of becoming the 28th Lady Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Conner also had six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. Junior guard Allison Krisher (Johnstown, Pa.) added 10 points and six rebounds, while senior guard Jaclyn Schirf (Loretto, Pa) grabbed nine rebounds and a dished out a team-high six assists.
Zapf's 11 rebounds give her 511 for her career. She is four rebounds shy of Jody Billingsley (1990-1994) for 19th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List. Conner now has 463 career rebounds, 11 rebounds shy of Sue Rosso (1991-1995) for 24th place.
The Lady Scots went on a 6-0 run with three minutes left in the first half to take a 29-23 halftime lead. The Lady Cats battled back to take a 41-39 lead with 8:23 left in the game. Pitt Johnstown extended its lead to six points with 6:19 left on the clock, but Edinboro went on a 16-4 run in the final six minutes to earn the six point victory
The Lady Cats finished the game shooting 21-56 (37.5%) from the field and 5-7 (71.4%) from the free-throw line. Edinboro shot just 21-59 (35.6%) from the field. However, the Lady Scots were 8-19 from behind the three-point line. The Lady Cats were just 5-7 from three-point range.
Edinboro's Kelly Calderone led all scorers with 17 points. Jessi Montie tallied 11 points and Maria Divecchio added 10 points. Callie Iorfido finished with eight points and a game-high 12 assists for the Lady Scots, who are now 10-3 for the year.
The Lady Cats travel to Concord (WV) University on Saturday, before returning home to the Sports Center to host #6-ranked Glenville State (WV) College on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
