Lady Cats Earn, 57-54, Road Victory at Slippery Rock
12/09/05... Junior guard Allison Krischer's (Johnstown, Pa.) jump shot with :40 left in the game gave the Lady Cats a 55-54 lead over Slippery Rock University Friday night. Red-shirt freshman guard Crystal Andrews (Johnstown, Pa.) followed with a pair of free-throws with :15 left to play to ice a, 57-54, road victory for Head Coach Jodi Gault's team. With the win, Pitt Johnstown has won six straight games and improved to 7-2 on the season.
Senior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) led all scorers with 16 points on 7-13 shooting from the field and 2-2 from the free-throw line. Junior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Krischer rounded out the Lady Cats who scored in double-figures with 12 points on 4-8 shooting from the field, including a pair of three-pointers. Jaclyn Schirf (Loretto, Pa.) finished the night with five points, four rebounds and three assists, and junior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) chipped in six points off of Coach Gault's bench.
Zapf, who now has 456 career rebounds, climbed over Toddy Croyle (1988-1992) and moved into 24th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List. Zapf is 18 rebounds away from tying Sue Rosso (1991-1995) for 23rd on the rebouding list. Conner, who now has 435 career rebounds, is nine rebunds shy of Lisa Britt (1976-1980) for 26th on list.
After a 30-30 halftime tie, the Lady Cats turned up the defense and held The Rock to just 25.8% (8-31) shooting from the field in the second half, while connecting on 47.1% (8-17) of their second half shots. In the end, Pitt Johnstown shot 48.8% (20-41), while holding Slippery Rock to just 37.0% (20-54). The Lady Cats also got the job done from the free-throw line, making 13 of their 16 attempts. Slippery Rock was 8-11 from the free-throw line.
Slippery Rock, now 5-3 on the year, got 11 points apiece from Jessica Schake and KellyAnn Staudinger Angela Greaser tallied nine points, and Amanda Chojnacki pulled down eight rebounds in a losing cause.
The Lady Cats will break for the holidays, before hosting the Mountain Cat Tournament on December 29 and 30 in the Sports Center. Pitt Johnstown will take on Bloomsburg University on December 29 at 8:00 p.m. after Ashland (OH) University and Philadelphia University battle at 6:00 p.m. The consolation and championship games are scheduled for December 30 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
