Lady Cat Basketball Earns 74-59 Victory at Shippensburg

The Lady Cat basketball team made it three straight wins with a 74-59 victory at Shippensburg University Wednesday night.  Junior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to help Head Coach Jodi Gault's Pitt Johnstown team improve to 4-2.

     Zapf's 22 points on 9-14 shooting from the field and 4-7 shooting from the free-throw line lead four Lady Cats who scored in double figures.  Guards Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) and Crystal Andrews (Johnstown, Pa.) both scored 12 points, and senior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) added 11 points and six rebounds.  Krischer and Jaclyn Schirf (Loretto, Pa.) both dished out five assists, while Andrews made a career-high six steals.  Schirf also had five steals and scored seven points.
     Pitt Johnstown grabbed a 6-4 lead three minutes into the game and never looked back.  The Lady Cats led 42-26 at halftime and increased the lead to 23 points with 15:38 to play in the game, before going on to the 15-point victory.  
     The Pitt Johnstown defense held Shippensburg to just 21-54 (38.9%) shooting from the field and 5-19 (26.3%) from three-point range.  The Lady Cats finished the game 45.8% (33-72) from the field and 33.3% (2-6) from behind the three-point line.  Pitt Johnstown made six of its 10 free-throws, while the Red Raiders were just 12-21 from the free-throw line.  The Lady Cats also forced 32 Shippensburg turnovers and turned them into 31 points.
     Megan Fogle scored 17 points and had seven rebounds to lead Shippensburg.  Kim Strickland added 14 points and nine rebounds, and Phylicia Bessick chipped in 13 points for the Red Raiders, who dropped to 3-1 on the season.
     Pitt Johnstown will host its  first home game of the 2005-06 season on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.  The Lady Cats will also host Clarion University on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the Mountain Cat men's basketball team.  The Moutain Cats will play the Golden Eagles at 8:00 p.m.
