Lady Cats Roll to 77-62 Win Over West Chester in Second Round of IUP Breast Cancer Foundation Classic
11/26/05...Head Coach Jodi Gault and the Lady Cat basketball team evened their record at 2-2 with a convincing, 77-62, win over West Chester University in Saturday's second round of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Classic at Indiana University (PA). Red-shirt freshman guard Crystal Andrews (Johnstown, Pa.) and junior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) each scored 16 points to lead four Pitt Johnstown players who scored in double figures.
Andrews, who scored 11 of her 16 points in the first half to help Pitt Johnstown to an 18-point halftime lead, finished 7-16 shooting from the field with one three-pointer. Andrews also collected five rebounds and four assists, while Oaks was 6-10 from the field (3-5 from three-point range) with four rebounds and a steal. Junior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) collected 14 points and seven rebounds, and senior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) chipped in 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Coach Gault also got six points apiece from junior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) and sophomore forward Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.). Krischer grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists and made four steals, and Maurer pulled down four rebounds in the victory. Senior Jaclyn Schirf (Loretto, Pa.) added three points, eight rebounds and five assists from her guard spot.
The Lady Cats' defense held West Chester to just 33.3% (22-66) shooting rom the field. Pitt Johnstown, which finished the game shooting 44.4% (32-72), also dominated the Golden Rams on the boards by outrebounding West Chester, 52-39.
Dominique Lewis scored a game-high 17 points and had five rebounds, and Justine Pfaff tallied 12 points and eight rebounds to lead West Chester. Elise McCloy pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Golden Rams, who fell to 0-3 to start the year.
Pitt Johnstown will play Indiana University (PA) on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. to wrap up the IUP Breast Cancer Foundation Classic. The Lady Cats will then travel to Shippensburg University on Wednesday, before hosting Salem International (WV) University in their first home game of the 2005-06 season on Sunday, December 4 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
