Red-shirt freshman guard Crystal Andrews' (Johnstown, Pa.) three-pointer with :13 second left in the game cut the Clarion University lead to 78-77, but the Golden Eagles hit a pair of free-throws with :06 to pin the Lady Cat basketball team with an 80-77 loss in Friday's first round of the 2005 Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Classic at Indiana University (PA). Andrews finished with 16 points, while junior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added team-highs of 18 points and eight rebounds.  Pitt Johnstown is now 1-2 on the year.

     Pitt Johnstown, which held a 30-29 halftime lead, also got 17 points on 7-12 shooting from the field and 3-5 shooting from three-point range from junior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) and 16 points, five rebounds and five assists from senior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.)Conner connected on 5-9 from the field and 6-8 from the free-throw line.  Junior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) had two points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Jaclyn schirf (Loretto, Pa.) chipped in four points, four rebounds and four assists in the loss.  Zapf, who finished the game 5-8 from the field and 8-12 from the free-throw line, moved into 27th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 403 career rebounds. Zapf is 14 rebounds behind Janet Hess (1991-95) for 26th place on the rebounding list.
     The Lady Cats shot 47.5% (28-59) from the field for the game, including 51.7% (15-29) in the second half, while holding the Golden Eagles to 41.9% (26-62).  However, Clarion made 23 of their 32 (71.9%) of their free-throws, while Pitt Johnstown was just 16-28 (57.1%).  The Lady Cats outrebounded Clarion, 39-38.  Both team made five three-point field goals.
     Katrina Greer's 19 game-high 19 points led five Golden Eagles who scored in double figures.  Ashley Grimm (17 points), Melba Melton (12 points), Jessica Albanese (11 points) and April Gratton (10 points) also scored in double figures.  Gratton and Albanese grabbed 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively for the Golden Eagles, who improved to 3-1 on the season.
     Pitt Johnstown will play West Chester University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Indiana University (PA) on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. to wrap up the IUP Breast Cancer Foundation Classic.  The Lady Cats will host Salem International (WV) University in their first home game of the 2005-06 season on Sunday, December 4 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
