Article Body

Charged with Identifying the Best Practices in Diversity Initiatives, a subgroup of the Diversity Working Group held student focus groups to elicit ideas for diversity activity ideas and suggestions.  The feedback included creating diversity programming which is both interactive and informal.  Upon this suggestion, the subgroup created “The Diversity of Vision Art Show”.  I am pleased to share these photo highlights of the event.

  • Students: Peggy Barta, Maria Bodenschatz, Lindsay Camino, Carissa Cyran, Faith Hoenstine, Angela Mazur, and Julia Pietsch
  • Staff: Josette Dau and Judy Freedman
  • Faculty: Dr. Valerie Grash, Dr. Mark Previte, and Dr. Dereece Smither

The primary purpose of the Art Show was to provide an avenue through which UPJ students, staff and faculty could display works of art on paper medium.

Art Show judges counting the ballots  Held on November 10, 2005, the Art Show included 55 art pieces from 29 artists.  A jury of seven volunteers judged works throughout the day and prizes were awarded for first, second, and third place, three Honorable Mention honors and one Peoples’ Choice Award.  Over 250 people participated in selecting the People’s Choice award and even more people attended the event.  The response to the art show has been overwhelmingly positive.
