Wrestlers Open Season With Four Champions at Slippery Rock Open

and the #3-ranked Mountain Cat wrestling team opened the 2005-06 season with four champions and a pair of runner-ups at Saturday's Slippery Rock Open.  Senior returning National Champion Thad Benton (Claysburg, Pa.) continued where he left off at the end of last season by claiming another championship.  This time, Benton defeated Bloomsburg University's Brad Forbes in double-overtime to lead four champions at the Slippery Rock Open.

     Along with Benton, junior Adam Musisko (McKeesport, Pa.) claimed the title at 174 lbs. with an injury default victory over Derrick Morgan (Lock Haven University), while senior Jay Matteo (New Castle, Pa.) and sophomore Eric Svec (Greensburg, Pa.) shared the championship at 149 lbs.
     Senior Ryon Mazzocco (125 lbs.) (Cresson, Pa.), last season's National Runner-up, and junior Mike Fowler (197 lbs.) (Carrolltown, Pa.) each placed second, while 2005 All-American Eli Garshnick (174 lbs.) (Armagh, Pa.) and two-time National Qualifier Zach Majocha (HWT.) (Upper Burrell, Pa.) both finished third.
    Pitt Johnstown opens its dual meet schedule on Sunday, November 13 at the 2005 Pennsylvania Duals at Penn State University.  The Mountian Cats will host their first dual meet against East Region rival West Liberty State (WV) College on Monday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
