Men's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 4-0 Win Over Point Park
10/24/05...Five Mountain Cats celebrated a rainy Senior Day with an impressive, 4-0, victory over Point Park University Monday afternoon. Freshman forward Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) scored three goals and sophomore midfielder Chris Hawkins (Scottdale, Pa.) added three assists to lead Pitt Johnstown to the shutout over the Pioneers. Head Coach Eric Kinsey's Mountain Cats improved to 4-12-1 on the season.
The Mountain Cats jumped out to a quick, 2-0, lead on Swope's goals in the seventh and eighth minutes of the first half. Senior midfielder Brad Clingan (Scottdale, Pa.) then took a pass from sophomore defender Alex Gatti (Indiana, Pa.) and scored a goal in the 28th minute to give Pitt Johnstown a 3-0 halftime lead. Swope added his third goal of the match off of an assist from Hawkins with 35 minutes to play to set the final score at 4-0. Senior goalkeeper Steve Weimer (Scottdale, Pa.) made four saves, before giving way to freshman Mike Bordogna (Monroeville, Pa.), who made a pair of saves. Pitt Johnstown outshot Point Park, 22-6, for the match. With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 4-11-0 on the year.
Midfielders Clingan and Bryan Rossin (McMurray, Pa.), defenders Dan Bauer (North Huntingdon, Pa.) and Nate McElroy (Saxonburg, Pa.) and goalkeeper Weimer all played their final home matches against Point Park.
The Mountain Cats finish the 2005 season at Shepherd (WV) University on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
