Mountain Cat Soccer Defeats Columbia Union, 4-0, at UPJ Kick-Off Classic09/05/05...The Mountain Cat men's soccer team brushed-off Saturday's loss to St. Thomas Aquinas with a 4-0 shutout over Columbia Union (MD) College in Monday's second round of the 2005 UPJ Kick-Off Classic. With the victory, Head Coach Eric Kinsey's team improved to 1-1 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break after freshman defender Alex Strait (Waynesboro, Pa.) scored with 6:02 to play in the first half. Junior defender John Kotchey (Gibsonia, Pa.) increased the Mountain Cat lead to 2-0 with a goal 14 minutes into the second half. Sixteen minutes later, sophomore midfielder Dan DeRenzo's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) pass found freshman midfielder Ben Sera (Irwin, Pa.), who scored to make it 3-0 in favor of Pitt Johnstown. DeRenzo then scored a goal of his own with 37 seconds to play in the match to set the final score at 4-0. Freshman forward Drew Yeingst (Stevens, Pa.) and freshman midfielder Shane Hekmanowski (Dillsburg, Pa.) each picked up assists on DeRenzo's goal. The Mountain Cats, who outshot the Pioneers 11-1 for the match, got one save from senior goalkeeper Steve Weimer (Scottdale, Pa.).
The Mountain Cats travel to Davis & Elkins (WV) College on Saturday, before returning home to host Shepherd (WV) University on Thursday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m.
