Connecting Game Consoles

With the changes to Resnet for this fall, the process for connecting a game console to ResNet has signficantly changed. It will now be necessary for you to have/purchase a USB to LAN Network Adapter and an extra Ethernet cable (available at the UPJ Book Store and local stores) and manually configure your computer to share that connection with your game console. This is the same process that has been used by the Pitt main campus for several years now.

Below are some basic instructions for setting up and connecting your console to your computer and the network.

1. Follow the instructions for your USB to Ethernet adapter and install it on your computer.

2. Follow the instructions for your particular Operating System and manually configure your network connection sharing. OS-specific instructions are available at the links seen in the box on the left of this page.

3. Follow the instructions found in the instructions document and configure your game console as directed.

4. If you have any problems call the UPJ Help Desk at 269-PJIT or the Main Campus Help Desk at 412-624-HELP.

5. Please note, MAC OS X users cannot directly connect game consoles through the MAC OS. You must first install Windows 7 in Boot Camp and then set up the connection using the appropriate Windows instructions available on the left.
